This song was written first in 1927 by Blind Willie Johnson. It was launched into space on the voyager spacecraft, which is honestly how I first heard about it. It’s one of the most bare bone and emotional songs I’ve ever heard. It doesn’t have any words or lyrics, only slide guitar and humming/moaning. I (Mac) really wanted to learn this song, and when we talked about having an intro for the album this song came to mind. It’s not a blues standard, but it should be. Also our version is much abbreviated from Blind Willie’s, but I really tried to put even a fraction of the sorrow into this modern version. I hope you enjoy.
